HITN
In developing the logo for the Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network in New York City, Tolman elected to create a design element that could easily work in all electronic media, as well as support many different interpretations for television graphics.
Working directly with HITN, Tolman developed a bold H based on a rectangle's 3-to-4 ratio (also the ratio of a television screen).
The H is made up of seven rectangles that can be combined like tiles. The "tile" idea came directly from Latin-inspired design, and the building material that dominates the history of the culture.
Tolman also knew that this concept lent itself well to producing animated effects for the television network. The tile "pieces" of the logo could be re-invented infinitely by HITN graphics producers for years to come.
