Security plans for the Democratic National Convention
are being completed this week, with numerous presentations and
discussions slated for the last few days before the massive event.
Although federal, state and
city law enforcement agencies will handle the bulk of the security
at the convention, which begins Monday, officials are reaching out
to Bristol County for added assistance.
While no Bristol County local
police department has been asked for help, the Bristol County Sheriff's
Office will play a role in securing the four-day party.
A spokesman for Sheriff Thomas
M. Hodgson said Tuesday that the sheriff's Mobile Command Unit will
be used during the convention. The sheriff will also be sending
at least one bomb-sniffing dog to assist in the herculean effort
to secure the event from any act of domestic or international terrorism.
Hodgson said he will be sending at least two technicians to the
convention along with the command unit.
